The Society of St. Vincent DePaul
Founded in Paris in 1833, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul joined the already established Vincentian Communities of Priests and Nuns in service to the poor. Inspired by Gospel values, The Society, a Catholic lay organization leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to–person service to those who are needy and suffering. We are one of the largest Catholic organization in the world with 750,000 members in 149 countries.

Serving hatfield & surroundING AREAS
The Society has two aims: to do a great deal of spiritual good for its members through the exercise of charity, and to do a little spiritual and temporal good for a few poor families in the name of Jesus Christ.
Our conference has been present at Saint Maria Goretti Parish since 2006. Members of the Society visit the homes of anyone in the community who request our help. We go as neighbors to listen, offering prayer, hope and support.
Sometimes we provide advice, sometimes we help them utilize community or parish resources; sometimes we provide rides, sometimes pay bills, but we always offer hope and prayer.
Annual Update | Spring 2026
Over the past twelve months, the members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at Saint Maria Goretti Parish have continued our mission of serving Christ through service to our neighbors in need within the surrounding communities. Guided by the generosity of our parishioners and volunteers, we have been able to provide both practical assistance and compassionate support to many local families facing difficult circumstances.
During the 2024–2025 fiscal year, Vincentian volunteers conducted 265 home visits and served 620 neighbors in need, offering not only financial assistance but also encouragement, respect, and personal connection. Our members devoted 2,924 hours of service, reflecting the dedication of volunteers who respond whenever a neighbor calls for help.
Food insecurity continues to be a significant challenge in our community. Through the monthly grocery collections, we distributed 2,180 grocery bags to area pantries with an estimated value of $76,300. These groceries helped families maintain stability during times of financial hardship.
In addition to food assistance, the conference provided $181,483 in direct aid to neighbors, helping families remain safely housed and maintain essential services. As reflected in the accompanying chart, the majority of assistance supported housing needs (77%). This is a result of the escalating rents in our area making it very difficult for working families who face unexpected circumstances (illness, layoff) to meet their monthly financial obligations, all critical expenses that help families remain stable and able to work. The total amount of funds disbursed includes funds from partner churches to support specific neighbors. Saint Maria Goretti SVdP and 14 local churches collaborate and share assets to serve the poor.
None of this work would be possible without the continued generosity of our parish community. Your donations, prayers, and encouragement allow us to respond when neighbors face eviction, loss of utilities, transportation challenges, or food insecurity. Because of YOU, families in our community receive not only financial help but also the reassurance that they are not alone.
On behalf of all the Vincentian volunteers, thank you for your continued support of this ministry. Your generosity truly makes a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
