Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

This program is for children age three to six and is held Sunday mornings from 9:20 until 10:40.  Children fall in love with Jesus, the Good Shepherd.  This experience is the foundation for a life-long relationship with God which is then lived out in the Church community.  Children live the central mysteries of our faith by working with and reflecting upon the materials that revolve around: the life of Christ, liturgical colors, geography, the altar and the Eucharist, the Gospels of the birth, passion, and resurrection of Jesus, Advent prophecies, the parable of the Good Shepherd and more.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM Mass every Sunday, with the exception of Christmas and Easter Sunday. Children’s liturgy is intended for children in Kindergarten through Grade 4. Children and their catechists are called forth during the Mass prior to the Liturgy of the Word. They reverently enter the side chapel to hear God’s Word proclaimed in the sacred scriptures in age-appropriate Readings. After the readings, the catechist offers a simple homily to the children.

Pre-Cana Team (Marriage Preparation)

The Pre-Cana Ministry assists engaged couples in preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony.  There are no experts here, just couples willing to share the beauty and joy of a Christ-centered marriage.  We also are always looking for people (not necessarily a couple) to assist with the organization and planning of our sessions.  This could include taking phone calls and registering couples, ordering and picking up food, or simply setting up and decorating the room for the session.

Our team of married couples meets about twice a year to plan and prepare for our sessions.  This is usually an hour meeting about a month before the session starts.  We also rely on email for communication.  We then hold a Fall and Spring Pre-Cana weekend session for engaged couples.  This includes a Friday evening presentation and then sessions throughout the day on Saturday.   Each couple is responsible for one piece of the weekend but are usually available for support during the weekend.  We meet either in the Parish center or Drexel Hall, depending on the number of engaged couples registered.

Pre-Jordan Team (Infant Baptism Preparation)

This program is open to married couples with experience in facing the challenges of parenting and communicating Christian values in our society. Team couples rotate throughout the year at the monthly Wednesday night class.  Each team takes about two sessions a year and also assists six times per year during the administering of the sacrament of Baptism.
